BACKGROUND :

Linking to Sub-theme 2 - Sustainable Financing for Expanding & Deepening Universal Health Coverage, iDSI proposes an interactive panel event focusing on Africa to discuss how Ministries should be working together to ensure sustainable financing for the commitments laid out in the 2019 UN HLM Deceleration on UHC given that many countries are transitioning from aid. The session will draw on the expertise of panelists from Ministries of Health and Finance in Africa and consider how to prioritize within health to achieve the greatest impact with the financing available. Policymakers will present the successes and challenges they have faced in cross-government prioritization of health financing. In addition, we will hear about several regional networks and their work supporting government decision-making. The session will focus on real world examples and discussing the value of resources available to help countries move towards a more sustainable health system.

OBJECTIVES :

- Understand the importance of Ministries working together towards common goals - Learn different approaches to prioritising health within the global budget and also how to prioritise between interventions to achieve the greatest impact. - Examine African country case studies to highlight successes and challenges
