Sonia ANCELLIN-PANZANI is Terre des hommes-Lausanne Africa Health Program Manager. She has been living in West Africa for the past 10 years (Guinea Conakry, Benin, Burkina Faso and Senegal) working for Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh) as Head of mission in Guinea Conakry, Benin-Nigeria and Burkina Faso and has been based in Senegal since April 2018 for the Africa Health program Manager position.
In Burkina Faso, Sonia ANCELLIN-PANZANI contributed to the advocacy efforts of several NGOs to remove the financial barrier to access health care for children under five and pregnant women which resulted in the national decision to scale-up the pilote projects carried out by Tdh and other NGOs.
She also engaged in the expansion of the Integrated e Diagnostic Approach (IeDA – 2019 ODESS Prize) project (http://ieda-project.org) which namely digitized the WHO/UNICEF IMCI protocol and developed tools and methodologies on human health resources capacity building, including e learning. She namely contributed to the design of IeDA spin-offs on epidemiological surveillance, maternity-related activities and to the addition of a financial tracking costs feature. In Burkina Faso, IeDA is being handed over to the Ministry of Health and covers more than half of the PHCs in the country.
Her current role includes promoting innovations and flagship projects such as IeDA in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger and SIMESON (Simulation of Essential Skills in Obstetrical and Neonatal Care – Balzan Prize 2018) in Mali.
She has special interest in digital health, information systems, performance-based mechanisms and access to health.
